There’s a reason great design never goes out of style: It tells a story, reflects a point of view and evolves with the people who live with it.

For more than three decades, Nate Berkus has built his career on the belief that our homes should tell our stories. Rather than chasing trends, his interiors layer history, texture and meaningful details to create spaces that feel collected rather than decorated.

The Tile Shop x Nate Berkus, our newest designer collaboration, brings that perspective to tile. Inspired by architectural and decorative traditions that have shaped beautiful homes for generations, this exclusive collection pairs historic influence with a fresh, livable sensibility.

Featuring floor and wall tile, statement patterns, versatile foundation pieces and authentic brick, every style was designed to work together, making it easy to layer materials, mix patterns and create a home that is distinctly your own.

Inspired by the Past, Designed for Today

“The most enduring spaces begin with a strong foundation. I wanted this collection to feel as though it had always existed, while giving people the freedom to make it their own.”

– Nate Berkus

For Berkus, great design has never been about following the latest craze. “I am vehemently anti-trend,” he says. Instead, he favors interiors that are built around materials, colors and details that never lose their appeal. “The rooms people still love 20 or 30 years later are rarely the ones designed around trends.”

True to that philosophy, references to European chateaus, French cafés, Spanish villas and Mexican tile traditions appear throughout the collection. Rather than recreating these historic elements, the designs reinterpret them for the way we live today.

Inside the Collection

From versatile foundation pieces to expressive statement tiles, every style in the Tile Shop x Nate Berkus collection was designed to work together. A palette of charcoal, soft whites and terracotta creates a common thread throughout, making it easy to mix materials, layer pattern and personalize a space.

Essential Foundations

The Lagos series serves as the anchor of the collection. Available in three versatile colors and multiple sizes, it works beautifully on its own or alongside the collaboration’s decorative styles. Its matte finish, lightly chiseled edges and subtle stone-inspired variation evoke the richness of handcrafted tile, while its coordinated palette provides a versatile backdrop for the rest of the collection.

European Classics

Some design ideas remain beautiful regardless of the era. The geometric mosaics found in Parisian apartment entries, cafés and historic European interiors continue to resonate because they offer quiet structure and old-world elegance while maintaining a sense of balance.

Honore reimagines the classic French grid layout, while Avenue and Eloise reinterpret beloved mosaic traditions with fresh proportions and graceful detailing. Chateau Brick completes the story with real kiln-fired clay, introducing warmth, texture and presence that lends a feeling of history to even newly installed spaces.

Featuring: Left: Nate Berkus Chateau Brick Sandstone. Right: Nate Berkus Lagos Alabaster and Nate Berkus Avenue Arctic White and Black.

Geometry With Soul

Pattern doesn’t have to shout to make an impact. Throughout the collection, geometry creates movement through thoughtful forms, distinctive silhouettes, and the way individual pieces come together during installation.

Isabel transforms simple circles and diamonds into a striking composition inspired by Spanish and Portuguese tilework, while Valencia pairs a classic hexagon with the depth of antique terracotta floors. The result is visual interest that feels architectural rather than ornamental, bringing depth and dimension without overpowering the room.

Order $3 samples.

Heritage Patterns

For centuries, decorative floors have brought pattern, craftsmanship and character to everyday spaces. Etoile and Estrela reinterpret archival star motifs in durable porcelain, pairing a weathered, handcrafted appearance with practical performance.

Featuring: Left: Nate Berkus Estrela Terracotta. Right: Nate Berkus Etoile Noir.

“Tile has told a story for centuries. I designed this collection with The Tile Shop to honor that—classic lines, timeless colors. Let the story continue.”

– Nate Berkus

Design a Home That Tells Your Story

Berkus believes a home should do more than look beautiful. “I want you to create a home that speaks to who you are,” he says. “The spaces we return to every day should feel authentic, comfortable and deeply connected to the people who live there.”

Whether you’re refreshing one room or designing an entire home, the Nate Berkus collection provides a foundation for spaces that adapt to changing lives while telling a richer story with each passing year. Begin with versatile foundations, add pattern and texture where you want expression, and create a home that reflects who you are today while leaving room for everything still to come.

Sophisticated and stately, hardwood is a natural choice for kitchen, living room and great room floors. Whether you’re updating your tile design to complement existing flooring or planning a whole new space, these 18 tile ideas offer the perfect pairings with light wood.

+ Plus, read to the end for four natural wood and wood-look designs to suit any space!

1. Add Authentic Craftsman Detail With Zellige Tile

Crafted, painted and glazed by hand, each piece of authentic Zellige tile is completely unique. Available in a range of colors and styles, its purposeful imperfections add rich visual texture to your design and beautifully complement a wood floor’s natural detail.

Notice the subtle shifts in tone and surface texture on the tile backsplash in this chic kitchen. The Zellige Dark Grey Gloss tile creates a resplendent handcrafted tableau that pairs nicely with the stone countertop and honey wood floor. Sleek, contemporary cabinetry and stone elements contrast the organic details, bringing balance to the gorgeous transitional design.

2. Elevate Your Space With an Ornate Pattern

Wood flooring provides a natural neutral base, allowing the colors and patterns you pair with it to set the tone for your space. An ornate pattern—like the Morris & Co. Pure Net Linen tile featured here—adds dainty elegance. Inspired by the historic motifs of iconic British designer William Morris, this beautiful tile combines the look of wallpaper with the durability and easy maintenance of porcelain.

Explore our exclusive Morris & Co. designer collection for more iconic designs.

3. Create a Chic “Slab” Look Backsplash

The veining of a solid block of stone echoes the natural graining in wood, but if you don’t have the budget (or don’t have the energy for the maintenance) for a backsplash-size piece of marble, wonderfully expressive marble look large format tile can cover your space with near-seamless elegance. Here, large format Icono White tile covers the wide backsplash with just four pieces. Rectified edges require only thin grout lines, making the space feel as expansive as if it were covered with a single stone slab. We love how it pairs with the rich Arbour Midlands Hickory Tavern luxury vinyl in this contemporary kitchen, but the soft beige veining and crisp white background would look equally stunning with a blonde wood floor.

Explore our wide selection of large format tile for more expansive designs. 👉

4. Pair With Marble for Ultimate Luxury

Resplendent with organic detail, marble is the epitome of luxury. Its natural veining pairs wonderfully with woodgrain, creating a space full of expressive movement. In this stunning bathroom, Rigel Grey wood-look tile adds authentic appeal in durable, waterproof porcelain, complementing the lush grey-veined Volakas marble and Arabian Lenci White marble-look tile.

If you love this opulent design, explore our wide selection of marble tile. For a similar luxurious look on a budget, shop marble look tile.

5. Add a Whimsical Pattern

Cozy elegance with a spoonful of whimsy—English country cottage design has made its way across the pond, filling American homes with a distinctly British brand of quirky sophistication. Here, the Laura Ashley Wexbord Midnight tile features a delicate, petite floral pattern. The sweet geometric design—based on the iconic brand’s original textile pattern—is charmingly complemented by blonde wood flooring, and the navy cabinetry grounds the space with a refined touch.

Shop our exclusive Laura Ashley designer collection for more quintessentially British motifs.

6. Pick Perfect Imperfection With Handmade-Look Tile

If you love the look of authentic handmade tile but want a little more consistency—or a slightly lower price point—perfectly imperfect handmade-look tile offers a stylish solution. With subtle variations in surface texture, size and tone, this tile pairs wonderfully with the natural graining of wood floors.

In this gorgeous transitional kitchen—designed by @britneyandco.interiors—the Tribeca Gypsum White tile creates a soft, refined backdrop. Its nearly imperceptible shifts in tone and texture add rich visual interest, working with the wood flooring to bring an organic warmth that makes the space feel homey and welcoming.

7. Bring the Drama With Black Stone

Contrast light wood flooring with dark stone for a visually expressive look that adds drama to your space. This chic living room, designed by Timber Trails, features a Noir honed limestone tile fireplace. The natural stone details and subtle shade variation create texture that complements the woodgrain in the flooring. The white mantel provides a solid, neutral element, balancing the expressive stone and wood textures.

If you love this dramatic look, explore our wide selection of black tile. 👉

8. Make Your Backsplash the “Star”

9. Choose a Dark Blue Hue

Contrast your light wood floor with a deep, dark hue. This cool kitchen features the Zellige Azul Gloss tile. Rich in craftsman detail, this authentically handmade tile brings a perfectly imperfect appeal to the sink backsplash. The undulating navy tones add depth to the walls, while the honeyed wood flooring lends a sense of lightness to the space. This vivid hue also looks stunning paired with a light blonde wood floor.

10. Layer Visual Texture

A lot is cooking in this cozy kitchen—and we don’t just mean on the stove! Tiles with varying visual and tactile textures are mixed together to create a space that soothes and stimulates the senses. The Roku White fluted tile creates small, tactile grooves along the wall, while the Kelli Fontana Kloe tiles in Ivory and In Bloom Ivory disrupt the flow with a charming diagonal pattern behind the stove backsplash. (Bonus: The smooth surface also makes it easier to clean.) Tonally consistent, the tiles’ differences create distinction between the cooking and prep spaces, making each feel larger. The soft whites pair nicely with the blonde wood floor, while the dark wood cabinets add gravity to the space.

11. Add Magnificent Midcentury Details

You don’t need an A-frame house or an Eames chair to showcase your midcentury aesthetic. Celebrate the best of the Mad Men era with mid-1900s-inspired subway tile from Fired Earth. This Tile Shop-exclusive Stoneware tile features the sleek silhouettes, rich earth tones and speckled details emblematic of the period. Available in five retro colorways, these tiles pair wonderfully with light wood floors to create timelessly dapper spaces.

Shop Stoneware from Fired Earth in all three colorways: Linen Brick (beige), Powder White and Rainwashed (shown).

12. Go for a Traditional Look With Subway Tile

Popularized in the Victorian era, subway tile’s sleek, clean design still feels contemporary. Pair it with timeless light wood floors for a look that defies trends, as seen in this classically chic yet modern kitchen from Timber Trails. The Signature Slate Blue subway tile backsplash adds depth to the cooking area without clashing with the lighter elements, while the brick-lay layout grounds the space in tradition.

13. Pair White Tile With Blue Cabinets

When designing a kitchen, the color of your cabinetry is just as important as your tile selection. White tile—like the Retro Lino subway tile featured on this stove backsplash—works with virtually any cabinetry color, making it a great choice if you want the flexibility to update your style over time. We love how the slate blue cabinets, white backsplash tile, and blonde wood floor come together to create a fashionable and inviting space in this Timber Trails-designed kitchen.

14. Keep It Classy With Black-and-White Tile

Like a well-tailored suit, black-and-white tile exudes stately elegance. This sophisticated yet playful West Bay Homes-designed kitchen features Laura Ashley Wicker Charcoal tile. The white geometric floral pattern against the faded black background creates a whimsical tableau with a sense of movement and order. We love how this charming patterned tile complements the muted wood floor, though it would look equally chic with honey-colored wood.

15. Embrace Japandi Design

Made of short, thin rectangular pieces reminiscent of its namesake candy, KitKat mosaic tile—available in White (shown) and Grey—adds harmoniously symmetrical texture to your space. Neatly stacked, the small pieces draw the eye upward along this bar backsplash, creating a sense of height and soothing movement. The orderly texture contrasts beautifully with the organic wood grain of the floor and bar, creating a sense of natural tranquility that exemplifies Japandi style.

16. Pick a Parisian Pattern

Bright and open, this European-inspired kitchen pairs the ornate, faded scrollwork design of the Alison Victoria French Connection Le Marais tile with honeyed wood floors, warm white cabinets and subtly veined marble countertops. The tile’s beige motif and crisp white background fit the serene neutral color scheme of this dreamy kitchen, but if you prefer more color, you could choose the same tile in light-blue Montmartre or dark-green Saint Germain.

17. Choose White Marble for Classic Elegance

Creamy or crisp, nothing epitomizes luxury like white marble. These organic details add expressive visual texture, drawing the eye to the fireplace while bringing warmth to the minimalist design.

There are a lot of decisions to make when starting a kitchen renovation. Should you go with a gas or electric stove? Wood or white cabinets? Do you really need that fancy espresso machine for your weekly cappuccino? (We would argue yes.) And when it comes to tile, how do you choose from all the wall, floor and backsplash options available to create the perfect pairing for your space? We’re here to take some of the guesswork out of the equation with nine simply stylish tile formulas to help you design like a pro.

1. Patterned Tile + Subway Tile = Culinary Charm

Dainty and floral or bold and geometric, patterned tile is available in a wide range of motifs to suit your style. Likewise, sleek subway tile comes in virtually any color, along with a variety of sizes and looks.

The Laura Ashley Endale Terra tile showcased on this kitchen floor features an intricate, interlocking white floral motif set against a warm terracotta-colored background. The patterned tile’s patina edge complements the handmade-look details of the Coco White matte subway tile, giving this delightful English country cottage style kitchen a storied feel.

To enhance this tile combination, look for styles that share unifying features. For instance, pairing a sleek, solid-colored subway tile with a geometric patterned tile creates a sophisticated, modern aesthetic.

STYLE FORMULA: PATTERNED TILE + SUBWAY TILE

2. Wood Look + Subway Tile = Chic & Versatile

If your style changes more often than your renovation budget allows, a simple tile design can keep your space versatile enough to accommodate easy updates. Wood-look flooring and white subway tile complement virtually any aesthetic—from modern farmhouse to dopamine decor.

This cheerful kitchen, designed by At Home With Ashley, features a Regent Bianco subway tile backsplash and Baltimore Beige wood-look floor tile. The sleek, neutral tile allows the colorful accessories to shine, creating a true dopamine decor design. But swap out the pink vinyl stove cover and rainbow banner, and the space can easily adapt to the newest decor trend without requiring new tile.

STYLE FORMULA: WOOD-LOOK TILE + SUBWAY TILE

This cheery kitchen features beige wood-look floor tile and white subway backsplash tile.
Featuring: Baltimore Beige and Regent Bianco. Design and photography by At Home With Ashley.

3. Large Format + Luxury Vinyl = Contemporary Sophistication

Defined as any tile with at least one edge longer than 23″, large format tile requires fewer grout lines, helping spaces look and feel more expansive. While these oversized tiles are available in a wide variety of styles and materials, stone- and marble-look porcelain tile remains one of the most popular choices. Easier to install and maintain than natural stone—and easier on the pocketbook—these durable tiles create a chic slab-inspired look on walls and backsplashes.

Similarly, scratch- and stain-resistant luxury vinyl flooring is available in a range of wood-, stone- and cement-look styles. This durable flooring is a stylish, cost-effective solution for high-traffic kitchens, as demonstrated in this contemporary space featuring Arbor Midlands Hickory Tavern luxury vinyl planks. Paired with a near-seamless Navona Bianco tile backsplash, the kitchen exudes modern elegance.

STYLE FORMULA: LARGE FORMAT TILE + LUXURY VINYL FLOORING

4. Wood Look + Stone = Natural Brilliance

Turn the tables on a traditional design with this easy-breezy formula that works just as well in a coastal kitchen as it does in a modern rustic space.

Featuring Jeffrey Alan Marks Natural Zen Birchwood White tile on the walls and Bianco Colorato marble on the floor, this contemporary coastal kitchen flips the customary wood-floor-and-stone-backsplash combination often found in modern kitchens. Mimicking white-painted driftwood, the backsplash features a subtle raised pattern that adds both visual and tactile texture. On the floor, bold grey-veined marble introduces a soft sense of movement and depth.

STYLE FORMULA: WOOD-LOOK TILE + MARBLE TILE

5. Stone + Stone Look = Beautiful & Durable

Stretch your style by pairing marble-look porcelain or ceramic tile with the real thing. While nothing beats the authentically unique beauty of natural stone, a man-made alternative offers superior durability and easy maintenance (maybe even a lower price point)–an enduring choice for high-traffic kitchen floors.

This charming modern farmhouse kitchen, designed by Rashida Banks, showcases Royal Satin White marble subway tile on the backsplash and Aqua Nero Matte porcelain floor tile. While the black marble-look floor tile features the expressive veining of natural stone, its durable, scratch- and stain-resistant construction makes it as practical as it is beautiful.

STYLE FORMULA: MARBLE TILE + MARBLE LOOK TILE

This charming modern farmhouse kitchen features a white marble tile backsplash and black large format marble look floor tile.

6. Handmade Look + Handmade Look = Perfectly Imperfect Style

Featuring perfectly imperfect details, handmade-look tile captures the artisanal appeal of authentic handmade tile at a lower price point and with greater consistency from piece to piece. Available in a range of colors and styles, handmade-look tile can be paired to create a beautifully textured tableau.

This stunning modern farmhouse kitchen, designed by I SPY DIY, features two distinct handmade-look tiles: Nuovo Riad Bianco on the backsplash and Look Avio on the kitchen island. The square and subway formats offer pleasing variation with unique profiles and contrasting colorways.

STYLE FORMULA: HANDMADE-LOOK TILE

7. Patterned Tile + Fluted Tile + Trim = Beautifully Textured Walls

Characterized by raised ridges, fluted tile adds both tactile and visual texture to a design. Patterned tile, with its intricate motifs, brings another layer of visual interest. Together, these textures create subtle definition between cooking and prep areas.

This inviting kitchen features fluted Roku White tile above the countertops. By casting soft shadows, the fluted tile uses light to enhance the space’s texture, while the flat Kelli Fontana Kloe tile in In Bloom Ivory and Ivory introduces pattern behind the stove backsplash. Framed with Signature Black Matte pencil trim, the stove backsplash breaks up the wall of fluted tile, creating a space that feels distinct while remaining tonally cohesive.

STYLE FORMULA: PATTERNED TILE + FLUTED TILE + TRIM

8. Subway + Checkerboard = Classically Chic

A classic pattern that has graced both grand and humble abodes for centuries, checkerboard tile instantly elevates any space. While subway tile (popularized in the Victorian Era) is a more recent design innovation, its sleek silhouette still evokes timeless elegance.

In this stunning space, designed by Timber Trails, Alison Victoria Brick x Brick Powder subway tile is paired with a Noir Honed and Silver Mist* checkerboard tile floor. The limestone squares are installed on a diagonal, adding visual depth to the room, while the brick-look gray subway tile is installed in a horizontal offset pattern that emphasizes its sleek silhouette. The result is a space that combines classic elements with contemporary aesthetics.

9. Black + White + Black & White = Stunning All Over

Like a well-tailored tuxedo, a black-and-white color scheme epitomizes sophisticated design. Feature a fashionable black-and-white tile, pair sleek white subway tile with luxe black floor tile, or combine all three looks for a space that exudes style.

This fashionable kitchen is a masterclass in mixing tile. Nikki Chu Tangier Graphite patterned tile is featured alongside Luxor Winter White subway tile and Fusi Carbon Steel cement-look floor tile. The crisp whites and steely blacks create striking contrast while remaining exquisitely neutral.

Easily accessible and sleekly appealing, walk-in showers offer a spa-like feel and a convenient bathing experience, adding value to your home while allowing you to enjoy it longer. From lavish marble designs to lush, nature-inspired motifs and fashion-forward patterns, these tile ideas will ensure your shower is as stylish as it is practical.

1. Explore Neutral Territory

Miles from bland and boring, this exquisite shower proves how vivid and invigorating neutrals can be. Featuring an expressive palette of white, beige and rust, the handmade-look and marble look tiles offer rich details in complementary tones. On the floor, Kasbah tile in Cross Terracotta and Star Bone creates a unique checkerboard, echoing the white and rust tones in the Arabian Pisa Oro Matte shower wall tile. The marble look tile’s lush veining provides a visual throughline to the handmade-look details of the Coco White Matte and Canvas Matte subway wall tiles, creating a beautifully complex yet cohesive space.

2. Add Fluted Details

Awaken your senses with an elegant fluted tile—like the Kelli Fontana Tommas Classico wall tile (also available in grey-veined Carrara) featured in this charming bathroom. The raised, gently rounded flutes are both invigorating and soothing to the touch, while also casting soft shadows that shift as the light moves throughout the room. We love how the crisp marble look tile is paired with the checkerboard-patterned Kelli Fontana Inlay Proper Eden Ode and Florence Lace floor tile for a whimsical, romantic aesthetic.

3. Coordinate Your Tiles

Create a seamless transition from the bathroom to the shower by pairing large format tiles with coordinating mosaics. In this space, designed by West Bay Homes, Livingstone Bianco large format tile is used on the main floor, while the matching Livingstone Bianco mosaic provides essential traction underfoot in the shower. The increased grout lines of the 2″ square mosaic offer safety without disrupting the visual flow, especially when paired with the complementary Simona White wall tile.

4. Line the Wall With Trim

Whether smoothing the transition between surfaces, outlining a patterned or mosaic picture frame or adding layers of interest to your walls, trim plays an essential role in your tile design. Much like with clothing or bedding, layering trim makes your space look elevated and intentional.

5. Make a Tonal Shift

Whether your walk-in shower is spacious or snug, varying your tile creates invigorating interest. Even a subtle tonal shift can enliven your design. In this stunning shower, designed by Two Chicks and a Hammer, Coco tile is installed in two colorways—White Glossy and Amber Grey Glossy—creating a unique layout that remains uniform in size and style. The undulating tones and texture are enhanced by the herringbone pattern, drawing the eye across the space with a soothing sense of movement. Take advantage of the extra wall space available in a walk-in shower to showcase a beautiful tile focal point. By “framing” a patterned or mosaic tile with trim, you can incorporate a favorite motif that might otherwise feel overwhelming if used throughout the entire space.

Here, the decorative Laura Park Martini Olives Taupe tile is framed by Africa Tempesta Barnes trim. The grey-veined white marble complements the tones of the painterly pattern, creating an elevated, high-end design moment.

22. Add Natural Beauty With Wood-Look Tile

While we wouldn’t recommend real wood for a space that is regularly inundated with water, wood look tile offers the same natural appeal with the waterproof durability of porcelain or ceramic.

Here, the Violin Decor tile features rich visual and tactile texture, combining a realistic wood design with a fashionably fluted surface. The Cool Blue handmade-look tile on the adjoining wall adds rich, undulating tones for a water-like effect, beautifully enhancing the themes of biophilic design.

If you love this durable, earthy aesthetic, explore our wide selection of wood look tile.

23. Give Yourself a Seat

Whatever stage of life you’re in, you can benefit from a place to rest. Walk-in showers make it easier to accommodate mobility aids, and a built-in bench or seat offers a dedicated spot to sit if standing becomes difficult—adding to the long-term accessibility of your home, a key feature of universal design.

As this chic shower proves, a seat can be a stylish feature as well as a practical one. Tiled in Marradi Calacatta Emerald Polished, the seat features bold veining that echoes the natural green of the Alison Victoria Gem scalloped wall tile. Fully integrated into the design, this seat offers unassuming assistance when needed—even if its primary use for now is a convenient spot for shaving.

24. Add Curb Appeal

A stone curb separates your shower pan from the main bathroom floor while elevating the character of your space. Available in a range of natural stone styles, curbs can seamlessly match your shower tile or add a decorative, high-end edge to a ceramic or porcelain design.

This elegant shower features Volakas marble throughout, anchored by a matching Volakas curb. Utilizing expressive, grey-veined marble in mosaic, field and trim formats, the space exemplifies how dynamic a design can be even when sticking to a single stone.

25. Create an All-Over Marble Look

Whether subtly or boldly veined in neutrals or vivid hues, marble look porcelain and ceramic tiles are available in a wide range of looks that fill your space with easy-to-maintain luxury. If you’ve found a marble look tile you love, drenching your entire space—as seen in this stunning Nikki Chu-designed bathroom—creates floor-to-ceiling opulence. 26. Give It Grip With Granite Tile

A flamed finish creates an earthy, textured surface on the Shanxi Black granite floor tile. Adding natural traction to this transitional shower, the silver-veined stone provides a striking visual contrast to the Tribeca Gypsum White handmade-look subway tile. While a smaller format naturally creates more grout lines for grip, the unique flamed texture of this granite provides inherent slip resistance even in a larger format.

27. Add Niche Appeal

Form meets function in the shower niche. By providing a stylish spot to store your toiletries, a niche helps reduce tripping hazards while offering a perfect opportunity to showcase a favorite mosaic or patterned tile.

Here, the Arctic White Large Herringbone mosaic is featured within the niche, splendidly framed by layers of Claros Silver Somerset, Arctic White Barnes and DURAL Gold trim. While these coordinate beautifully with the Arctic White field tile, you could further increase your niche’s visibility by using a high-contrast tile.

28. Mix Your Stones

Inspired by the abstract geometric paintings of Piet Mondrian, the Mondrian tile incorporates marble and travertine in varying squares and rectangles to create a striking mosaic. The blend of natural stones and contrasting warm and cool neutrals results in a distinctly contemporary and visually rich tableau.

29. Go for a Gorgeous Green Hue

Gloriously green and visually rich, this spacious bathroom—designed by @yellowstoneinteriordesign—is enough to make anyone envious. The Look Oliva tile lines the shower walls and wainscoting, creating a cohesive and high-end feel. Chic and sleek, this subway tile features perfectly imperfect handmade-look details and undulating tones that give the space a serene sense of movement.

Love this lush hue? Shop our extensive collection of green tile.

30. Add a Tile Rug

More than just a striking design feature, a tile rug provides both visual and tactile guidance in your shower. An effective tile rug is created using mosaic tile framed by a field tile in a contrasting color—like the white Watercolor Marble herringbone tile surrounded by Seaside Marble large format tile. The change in color and texture underfoot helps you navigate your shower safely, allowing you to enjoy your home longer.

The post Our Top Tile Trend Predictions for 2026 appeared first on The Tile Shop Blog.

]]>
As another inspiring year of design comes to a close, we’re turning our attention to the trends that will define 2026. In 2025, we embraced new ways to express individual style through timeless, lasting design. As we move into the new year, we foresee that an emphasis on sustainability, authentic materials, and organic patterns and shapes—along with a resurgence of time-honored styles—will define spaces that continue to celebrate individuality.

Read on to discover 15 of our top tile design predictions for 2026—timeless looks and ideas that will shape the year ahead and inspire beautiful spaces you’ll love for years to come.

1. Modern Rustic

Characterized by warm, muted neutrals, natural materials and an atmosphere of relaxed refinement, modern rustic design is contemporary and sophisticated, yet still cozy. This style is perfect if you’re looking to update your modern farmhouse home—many of the same principles of approachable earthiness apply, but with fewer literal farmhouse elements.

This wet room, designed by HGTV star Alison Victoria, features a wall of rough-cut stone paired with the opulent Bianco Puro chevron marble mosaic, proving that this rugged style can also be elegant. If you love the warmth of modern farmhouse but are drawn to spaces that are a bit more streamlined, modern rustic is the perfect evolution.

This modern rustic wet room features a white marble chevron tile floor and a rugged warm stone wall.
Featuring: Bianco Puro Chevron.

2. Pleated Materials

Soft and romantic, pleats are rippling through the interior design world—offering unique tactile and visual texture in unexpected materials and spaces. This beautiful entryway features Kelli Fontana Tommas Classico marble-look wall tile. The raised, fluted pattern mimics pleats found in fabric, adding dimension and a dynamic quality as the pattern casts shadows in shifting light (you can achieve a similar look using Home Kit-Kat tiles). Kelli Fontana Patina Mirror tiles in Eclipse and Siren also contribute depth to the space.

This elegant entryway features fluted white marble-look wall tile and patina mirrored tile.
Featuring: Kelli Fontana Tommas Classico, Kelli Fontana Patinina Eclipse and Kelli Fontana Patina Siren. Design by Kelli Fontana Vogelgesang.

Explore our exclusive Kelli Fontana designer collection for more of this bold, classic, and whimsical aesthetic.

3. Hand-Painted Motifs

Playful and expressive, painterly patterns have been gaining popularity over the past decade—and we predict they’ll continue to bring beauty and joy to interiors in the coming year. The chic bathroom below captures this trend perfectly with tiles from our exclusive new Laura Park collection.

The Cosmo Aegean Blue porcelain wall and floor tile, adapted from one of Laura Park’s signature wallpaper prints, brings artistic flair to the room’s floor with its hand-painted-look floral pattern and expressive brushstrokes. Soft blue tones flow seamlessly into the Seaside Marble wall tiles and coordinating shower floor mosaic, creating a serene, cohesive space full of color and charm.

Explore our wide selection of patterned tiles to discover more hand-painted motifs to suit your style.

4. Modern Organic

Much like rustic modern design (featured at #1 on this list), modern organic design celebrates natural materials and earthy tones—but with a more curated, minimalist sensibility. This style balances warmth and simplicity, pairing clean lines with organic texture and pattern for a look that feels effortlessly sophisticated.

In this serene patio, the Nikki Chu Tangier Pumice tile captures that balance beautifully. Its hand-drawn geometric motif introduces subtle movement and contemporary structure, while the soft, neutral palette grounds the space in nature. The result is a harmonious blend of modern polish and organic ease.

Explore our exclusive Nikki Chu designer collection for more organic patterns and contemporary neutral palettes.

5. Rich, Earth-Toned Neutrals

Say goodbye to millennial grey! The trend toward beige, warm white, earthy greens and muted blues will continue into the new year. Far from boring, these rich neutrals offer complexity and a connection to nature, creating deeply expressive spaces that move away from the starker, more industrial feel of the cool tones that defined much of the early 2000s.

This sumptuous space showcases Nuovo Riad wall tile in Bianco and Creme, installed in a chic checkerboard—another popular trend we expect to see more of in 2026. The warm browns and blacks in the Terrazzo Bianco Micro floor tile (this tile is no longer available; achieve a similar look with Terrazzo Bianco Macro tile)–which pops up again in trend #15 on this lis–adds even more visual texture.

This warm neutral bathroom features a white and beige checkerboard wall tile and terrazzo-look floor tile.
Featuring: Nuovo Riad Bianco, Nuovo Riad Creme and Terrazzo Bianco Micro (tile no longer availale; achieve a similar look with Terrazzo Bianco Macro).

6. Berry Hues

Warm mahogany, deep purple and dark cherry red have already been named colors of the year by some of the top paint brands—and we predict these rich berry hues will continue to grace spaces for years to come. This retro-inspired bathroom, designed by @johnmartinestudio, features Imperial Sienna gloss square mosaic tile (this tile is no longer available; achieve a similar look with Imperial Red Gloss). The deep red hue is balanced by the warm light wood vanity and off-white walls.

This retro-inspired bathroom features small red square mosaic tile and white and red hex floor tile.
Featuring: Imperial Sienna Gloss (tile no longer available; achieve a similar look with Imperial Red Gloss), Imperial Sand Gloss Hex and Imperial Sienna Gloss Hex. Design and photography by @johnmartinestudio.

7. Raised Wood Patterns

Compatible with several contemporary and traditional styles—such as modern rustic, modern organic, Japandi and biophilic designraised wood patterns have been growing in popularity for years, and we predict they will appear in even more spaces in the year to come. Featuring a range of designs—like the geometric cross shape in the Tavola Decor tile shown here—these tiles create a sensory experience with natural appeal. Explore our wide selection of wood-look tile for more unique motifs.

This contemporary bathroom features a fluted raised wood-look tile and light veined marble tile.
Featuring: Tavola Decor, Firenze, Moonstone Beige Picket, Firenze Calacatta Bullnose (tile no longer available; achieve a similar look with Firenze Carrara Bullnose), Hampton Carrara Shower Curb and Firenze Calacatta Somerset (tile no longer available; achieve a similar look with Firenze Carrara Somerset).

8. Color and Material Drenching

Color drenching—the process of bathing a room, including doors, ceilings and trim, in a single color—will continue to be popular in 2026. For the bold, this trend extends to materials as well as color. Saturating an entire room in a single hue—or even a single tile—adds depth and can make your space feel larger. Here, Costa Emerald Mix mosaic tile covers the walls and floors with rich green tones. We love how the band of gold metal trim breaks up the design—small details like this add visual interest to a monochromatic space.

9. Sustainable Materials

Sustainability is always in fashion, and in the years ahead, the focus on recycled, natural and environmentally friendly materials will continue to shape home design. Featuring a durable eucalyptus core and a real wood veneer, our Corlee engineered hardwood collection offers natural beauty along with exceptional durability, easy installation and a lower impact on our forests.

Explore our wide selection of engineered hardwood in a variety of light and dark finishes to suit any style.

10. Terracotta Revival

Rustic and warm, terracotta and terracotta-look tile are a natural fit for many contemporary design styles gaining prominence in the coming year. Evoking a chic Southwest aesthetic, this rust-colored tile instantly brightens a space with rich, complex tones. This stylish room, designed by @northstardesign.co, features Kasbah Star and Cross Terracotta tiles. Their handmade look and Moroccan-inspired design add depth and interest to the modern rustic space.

11. Handmade Ceramics

Our preference for handcrafted designs and authentic materials will continue into the new year, with a particular appetite for handmade ceramics throughout the home. Fully embrace this trend with our Zellige collection tile—each piece crafted, painted and glazed by hand using centuries-old techniques. Here, the Zellige Shamrock and White Gloss petite subway tiles demonstrate that historic design and expert craftsmanship can be used to create stunning contemporary spaces.

12. Art Deco Designs

Curves, geometric patterns and mixed materials—the defining style of the 1920s—is making a roaring comeback in the 2020s. If you think this decadent, carefree style is the bee’s knees, explore our wide assortment of waterjet mosaics, many of which feature mixed materials in flapper-era patterns—like the Christie Volkas tile shown here.

13. Grout as a Design Element

Essential to any tile design, grout color can dramatically affect the look of a space. Choosing a contrasting or complementary color determines how much you highlight your tile layout. While high-contrast grout creates drama and depth, low-contrast grout offers a subtler, more organic effect. Here, white subway tile is installed using Whisper Grey grout for a softer look.

14. Unique Shapes

Creating interest through lines that offer dynamic movement, uniquely shaped tile will create distinct spaces in the coming year. From charming leaf motifs to unconventional scallops—like the Alison Victoria Malibu Edit Pointe Dume tile shown here—these exceptional silhouettes infuse spaces with character and unparalleled allure.

Explore our wide selection of uniquely shaped tile for more extraordinary designs. 👉

15. Terrazzo-Look Porcelains

Mimicking the look of authentic terrazzo tile—a composite material containing flecks of stone, glass and marble—these tiles offer beautiful visual texture and superior durability. This warm, contemporary space, designed by @craftandtheory, features the Terrazzo Bianco Micro tile (this tile is no longer available; achieve a similar look with Terrazzo Bianco Macro tile). Its earthy tones and organic texture work well with a variety of styles trending in 2026. Shop Terrazzo porcelain tile in all four colorways: Bianco Macro, Azzurro, Nero Macro, and Nero Micro.

With its unique natural details and endless versatility, wood is always in vogue. Whether you’re looking for tile to coordinate with your existing bathroom vanity or planning to build your design around a new fixture, these 20 tile ideas prove that natural wood pairs beautifully with virtually any style—from sleek mid-century modern to cozy-chic modern farmhouse.

1. Express Your Artistic Side With Laura Park Tile

Inspired by her abstract artwork and the popular textiles derived from her mixed-media designs, our new and exclusive Laura Park tile collection showcases a stunning array of colors, styles, and motifs—offering endless possibilities for creative expression. This elegantly dynamic bathroom features four Laura Park tiles in coordinating colors and patterns: the Cosmo Aegean Blue patterned tile, Seaside Marble porcelain tile, and Bespoke White in both 5 in. and 2.56 x 5 in. sizes. 2. Make It Sleek and Boho Chic!

Worldly and eclectic, modern boho chic design is all about celebrating your unique taste. Here, designer Brooke Pavel showcases a more muted—yet still vibrant—interpretation of this globally inspired style. By pairing a Picket Florencia Super Bianco tile backsplash with a light wood vanity and a blush pouf seat, Pavel strikes a delicate balance between the soft color palette and the bold geometry of the elongated hex tile and wood-carved diamond design.

3. Create Contrast

This chic transitional bathroom, designed by @emerson.studios, is a prime example of how to create harmonious contrast. The vanity, with its fine woodgrain detail, is paired with diamond-shaped, dove-grey Chalk Silver RMB porcelain floor tile (this tile is no longer available; achieve a similar look with Diamond City Grey tile). The tile’s soft, cool coloring, leather-like texture and geometric pattern beautifully offset the vanity’s warm, hard, organic character. This contrast extends to other design elements as well—note how the black, modern hardware plays against the traditional brass fixtures.

4. Add Elegance With a Marble Mosaic

Delicate shapes crafted from exquisite stone bring a sense of exceptional elegance to any space. For a timeless traditional look, pair a marble mosaic backsplash with a stately wood vanity. This stunning bathroom features the Bisbane Brookfield diamond-shaped mosaic, which mimics the look of tufted upholstery. The refined design beautifully complements the dark wood vanity and classic fixtures.

5. Bring Beautiful Blues

Cool-toned blues evoke the brilliance of the sea and sky, making them a natural complement to a warm, earth-toned wood vanity. Designed by @bellsheepstudio, this tasteful transitional bathroom features Imperial Slate Blue square mosaic tile (this tile is no longer available; achieve a similar look with Imperial Denim gloss tile). We love how the subdued blue tones are echoed in the chevron-patterned wallpaper and bath towels, while the creamy white wainscoting introduces another layer of warmth to the space.

6. Pair Patterns

A wood vanity provides a neutral anchor, giving the eye a place to rest and allowing creativity to shine throughout the rest of the space. Pairing two patterned tiles—or combining a patterned floor tile with wallpaper, as @andreak_covelladesigns does in this bold, elegant space—can make your room feel vibrant and full of life. The key to successfully mixing patterns is to create a visual throughline while maintaining clear distinction. Though aesthetically different, the black-and-white stone-look pattern of the Marble Star floor tile echoes not only the tones in the floral wallpaper but also its antique charm. Not quite ready to commit to mixed patterns in your primary bath? Try it in a powder room, where experimentation is less conspicuous.

7. Add Historic Details With Morris & Co. Tile

Inspired by the iconic British designer’s historic wallpaper motifs—which have adorned the walls of palaces and estates across England since the late 1800s—our exclusive Morris & Co. collection brings William Morris’s dedication to beautiful, accessible design to tile. Featuring ornate patterns in soft, neutral palettes—like the St. James Farrington Grey wall tile shown here—these sophisticated designs pair effortlessly with warm beige, grey or dark wood vanities.

8. Choose Moroccan-Inspired Artisanal Appeal

This stylish bathroom is another great example of contrasting design elements. It features Kasbah Star and Cross Terracotta tiles—drawn from traditional handmade Moroccan tilework—paired with a sleek, contemporary floating vanity. Though the tile and vanity reflect distinct styles, the warm wood and terracotta tones create a cohesive visual link between them. A curved doorway cut into the cool grey wall introduces tonal contrast, yet the modern color ties it to the vanity, while the arched shape nods to classic Moroccan architecture.

9. Create a Modern Farmhouse Haven

Refined rustic details make this space a perfect example of modern farmhouse design. The luxurious dark wood vanity perfectly matches the trim and wainscoting, while the marble countertop complements the Firenze Carrara Hex floor tile. These refined details are beautifully juxtaposed with exposed brick.

Stone and wood—two natural textures that go together like peanut butter and jelly. Whether warm tones, cool tones, or a mix of both, pairing fine woodgrain details with the delicate or dramatic veining of stone-look tile creates a space that soothes the senses. Here, the subtly veined Moonstone Off-White tile offers the organic beauty of stone in the form of durable, easy-to-maintain porcelain. If you look closely, you’ll see the tile’s horizontally oriented linear pattern flows perfectly with the vanity’s woodgrain.

11. Create Natural Tranquility With Biophilic Design

Defined by its use of colors, forms, and materials found in nature, biophilic design brings the outdoors inside, creating lush, serotonin-inducing spaces. Here, a wood vanity is paired with the gorgeous Look Oliva subway tile. The rich green hue and natural wood evoke a soothing forestscape, while the delicate floral motif of the Laura Ashley Wexbord Fresh Green shower niche adds a touch of whimsy.

With natural shades of rich brown, beige, and grey, this stone subway tile adds an organic, brick-like texture that pairs beautifully with the dark wood vanity. We also love how the gold fixtures introduce an elegant contrast to these rugged elements.

Here, the Retro Lion subway tile is installed in a vertical offset, with each row separated by the Signature Slate Blue pencil trim, creating a custom design that adds interest to the blue-and-white theme.

17. Soften Your Design with Rounded Tile

Creating wave-like patterns inspired by its namesake California beach, this grey-veined white marble tile flows naturally along the chic backsplash, providing a sleek contrast to the dark wood vanity.

18. Reimagine Retro With Mid-Century Modern Design
